Dysart celebrates once-in-a-century ZIP Code Day

Dysart celebrated the once-in-a-century convergence when the calendar date (5/22/24) matches up with the town’s ZIP code (52224). Spearheaded by Dysart Development Corporation, ‘52224 Day’ culminated with a party in City Park from 4-8 p.m.
Norma Anders Public Library Director Janene Krug’s 52224 table located near the Koi Pond Illusion was a particularly popular spot during the festivities especially with the younger crowd including rising third graders Landon Dumas and Brody Pippert (pictured) who posed for a photo while having fun at the library’s bubble station. The youngsters told the newspaper that while they weren’t exactly sure what a ZIP code was, they were having a blast anyway.
The festivities also featured live jazz music by the duo Sam Crosser (piano) and Greg Dietrich (trumpet) who were jamming under the park shelter (pictured below), while over on the tennis courts, members of the Dysart Pickleball Organization played the evening away as well – welcoming both experienced and rookie players alike to take part in pick up games.
A display showcasing the organization’s continuing progress on bringing two new pickleball courts to the park – both of which will be located directly south of the tennis courts – was set up nearby for the public to learn more.
Downtown at Harper’s Public House, the popular eatery was also getting into the 52224 spirit with the new ‘52224 burger’ featuring 5 toppings – lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, and bacon jam – along with 2 slices of American cheese, 2 pieces of crispy bacon, and 2 onion rings atop a 4 oz. fresh beef patty. Certainly a burger worth checking out more than once a century.
The Dysart Post Office offered a cancellation stamp on historical postcards and a special t-shirt was available for purchase at select stores in Downtown Dysart and in the park that evening.
